In Bloom (Prologue)

This concept is inspired by spring and feeling renewed. It took much time to reflect on what I wanted out of myself, and after much healing and deep meditations, I finally realized what that was.

The only thing I aim to evolve into in this life is free, which, after much thought, meant embodying my true, honest self. Of course, our self grows and is ever changing, just like the seasons, but as we accept those changes, we can live our honest truth. I aim to show more of what embodies my true self from now on.

No more chasing butterflies; they’ll come to me the more I bloom.

I always felt held back, and I realized I was the one who held myself back. Whether it be my own thoughts and actions or allowing others to dictate my thoughts and actions, it was my choice to listen and stay connected to those energies and versions of myself that no longer served me. I was choosing to drown myself in those environments.

Then, I came to a crossroads to another choice: Do I stay? Or do I go? The unknown is always frightening, but I realized anywhere is better than this.

But before making that choice, I had to know and accept who I am and what I feel my purpose is. This is the only way I can be honest with myself, and with this acceptance comes the honest expansion in my work I want to present.

This new-found freedom I am showing the world is raw, but not uncomfortable. I have fought so long and hard to be this way and it took a lot of deconstructing and relearning on my journey for years before I could come to this point. It wasn’t that my work wasn’t raw, but it was still safe and hidden in some respects. Doing the “Twin Flame” projects were the most vulnerable I had been, to the point I needed a break, and even that wasn’t my full voice because I was careful in protecting my “Twin Flame”. I felt familiar in that environment to create because I was always used to being muted by others or in my care for others. I realized soon thereafter that I needed to use the same care in myself.

I am more than just one facet of my life - I am more than someone’s “Twin Flame”, I am more than the people I am connected to, I am more than just a woman of color…

I am human, and to be human is to be multilayered; Now, I choose to show all of me and be more honest with myself and everyone not just through words and actions, but through my works.

There are things I can’t control in life, and there are things I can.

I choose to be honest. I choose to voice my core being. I choose to be love. I choose to voice the light. I choose to voice the dark. I choose to voice every part of me. I choose to accept every part of me.

I choose to learn and grow as an artist and as a person. I choose the flow of life, whatever that may be and whatever that may bring.

Life is full of choices, and I choose to be me. I can only be me...

…Always with love.
